Fantastic Foster flat', 'fantastic-foster-flat', 13, 1, '
Being an avid reader / listener of horror/ghost/mystery fiction and having some extra time recently while on holiday (aka no internet and bad tv reception) i was recommended a new to me author while waitng for the latest victoria laurie to be released and not having Horror theatre from the net.
\r\n
Orrin Jason Bradford has a wide rang of subject material but i opted for his short story collection, fantastic fables of foster flat.
\r\n', '\r\n
if you remember the 5 minute mystery series then this is the one for you. it is bringing with the total mix from "coming home" stories to the "but what happened to..." and even some "why didnt they see that coming.." stories.
\r\n
I am next planning to see if the next book from him is in the same easy to read style or throws some must read the next bit moments

i shut down a charities mailing list.', 'i-shut-down-a-charities-mailing-list', 16, 1, '
Many organisations use email services such as mailchimp or constantcontact.
This may be good to get round many email restrictions by hosts for the emailer but is often bad news for the emailee.
\r\n
Here is the scenario that meant i single handed managed to get a national charity email list shut down.
\r\n', '\r\n
I contacted the organisation in question years ago for something. This year i got an email from them asking for the usual £ per month. I ignored it. Then i got more emails from them. As someone who dislikes the "tracking" idea, amd a definiate opt outer. clicked the unsubscribe link that failed. I also sent the email service stating the error and wishing to be removed providing a list of emails and blacklisted by their site. They responded confirming they had done.
\r\n
A charity that somehow got my {oddly the same } email address sent me an email from the same email service. Annoyingly the email was only in html and yes I have block remote content removed in my mail client. I clicked the unsuscribe and it told me that the email was banned.
\r\n
I then emailed the organisation and asked;
When i was signed up
How i was signed up
the IP of the signup
\r\n
from the organisation
"Thanks for your email and feedback.
\r\n
We are trialling [name] at the moment and looking into the technical issues."
\r\n
I also emailed the service and reconfirmed i was on their blacklist and sent the headers from the email.
they responded that the ".....global unsubscribe list. This means the email address listed above will no longer receive email campaigns sent through [name]
We are also investigating the list collection process for this particular account. "
Next i get an email from the organisation via traditional email servers that due to technical difficulties they need everyone who wishes to subscribe to their newsletters to click a link [ with their new email service]
Turns out they had mass subscibed every one against many spam rules and the services T&C. they must have got a right royal slap.

'Badly behaved dog OWNERS in restaurants', 'badly-behaved-dog-owners-in-restaurants', 16, 1, '
I met up with school friend for lunch just outside Farnham, she suggested a pub that was dog friendly as i had furry doorstop with me.
on entering the doors, (no anti dog signs) the dog (firmly on a short lead) looked left and a woman sitting next to the door said "that dogs was after my dinner" actually her plate contained something akin to a Brussels spout leaf.
My friend asked if dogs were allowed, " yes over there in the corner bar or there but not on the carpeted areas"
the only area that wasn''t occupied was one corner (round table flanked by small side tables where a couple were sitting. as we approached the woman sitting at the round table said (or declared!) "but we got 3 dogs here!"
\r\n', '\r\n
i said, we''ll tuck ourselves into the corner, and friend looked around the corner for another table but there wasn''t any.
So we at in this side table with furry doortop tucked out the way, I go to get the menus and then the women grabbed the dogs tightly as i walked passed. I said, "there aren''t many places for dogs in this bar".
On my return, FD (furry doorstop) was tucked in and lying in a happy husky position. friend gave me a look that implied i should look to the round table. The couple had stood up, gathered their dogs and stormed off. Just after they got up and vanished their food arrived.
Companian couldn''t believe the people just got up and left, so we kept an eye out for them leaving but they didn''t. They had taken their dogs and effectively stormed off down the other side of the restaurant.
We carried on discussing it while the badly behaved terror lying at my feet snored away. She didn''t even wag her tail in the couples direction.
If you cant trust your dogs in a public place, when they could go into pack mode then stay at home!
The bar staff were great, bought over a bowl of water for FD , who barely lifted her head in appreciation, she was amazingly well behaved according to my friemd, only doing the obligatory begging when we had finished.
Oh the only other let down was the menu
"we launched a new menu today, there arent any specials as the chefs need to learn the menu" err what??
My fish and and both our chips would have been better if it wasn''t smothered in rock salt, prior to delivery.
